Kurbasy performance in Tucson

  • La Rosa Arts Center 800 North Country Club Road Tucson, AZ, 85716 United States (map)

Kurbasy, a daring vocal ensemble from Lviv, Ukraine, is acclaimed for weaving together ancient folk traditions with contemporary storytelling. Founded by actor-singers Natalia Rybka-Parkhomenko and Maria Oneschak, the group reimagines Ukraine’s cultural legacy through striking harmonies, rare regional dialects, and theatrical stagecraft. Their performances honor the natural world, ancient rituals, and the unbreakable spirit of their homeland.

Their latest creation, Songs of the Ukrainian Forest, emerged in the midst of the pandemic and Russia’s invasion as an expression of resilience, remembrance, and freedom. The 14-song cycle draws from ancient seasonal chants, lullabies, and folk legends, telling stories of love, grief, joy, and war. Accompanied by evocative projections from artist Gryca Erde, Kurbasy’s performances feel both timeless and urgent — a powerful testament to the endurance of a people and the enduring beauty of their traditions.
