Making an Impact at People of Action Breakfast with Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary Club
Judge Orest Jejna presents at the People of Action breakfast hosted by Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
In spirit of #Together4Ukraine campaign piloted by Katrina Schaffner of Cactus and Tryzub, we are getting out there in the community to dispel myths about Ukraine. The fact that far-reaching russian propaganda is seeping into the minds of Americans is undeniable and, as Ukraine supporters, we must do something about it.
On Thursday, June 5th, we were warmly received by the Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary Club for the People of Action breakfast series where judge Orest Jejna had the opportunity to share about how communities can stand with Ukraine right now. He shared about his personal ties to Ukraine and his life-long journey of making meaningful impact, be it in the courtroom or advocating for Ukraine. Judge Jejna’s call to action for the club’s members was to:
✅ Ask our members of Congress to expedite the vote for Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025 (S.1241/H.R.2548) so it can be implemented as soon as possible - more than 140 days into the new US Administration, russia has no intention to cease fire!
✅ Ask our members of Congress to support S. Res 236 - a resolution calling for the return of abducted Ukrainian children before finalizing any peace agreement to end the war against Ukraine. (russia has kidnapped 20,000 Ukrainian children and the longer we wait the less chance there is for their return).
It was wonderful to run into our former Mayor David Damian Ortega who has been a guest speaker at our 2023 Ukraine Independence Day in Scottsdale, AZ. A touching highlight of the morning was when judge Jejna was awarded an honorary club lapel pin by our host, Mark Dozier. Additionally, it was wonderful to hear of potential collaboration between Sunrise and Rotary Club in Kyiv. We were honored to participate in beautiful club traditions such as the “happy bucks”, where guests took turns sharing gratitudes and what they were happy for that day. Accompanied by a small donation, this tradition highlighted the spirit and generosity of the Rotary club, its mission and its members.
