Discover Ukraine: Explore Its History, Stories & Spirit Through Books and Film

In a time when information is often weaponized, connecting with Ukraine’s authentic history and vibrant culture is more important than ever. Exploring trusted books, documentaries, and cultural films allows us to experience Ukraine through the eyes of its people—not through distorted narratives or propaganda. These stories shed light on centuries of resilience, rich traditions, and a deep-rooted struggle for independence and identity. By learning directly from Ukrainian voices and creators, we not only honor their truth—we empower ourselves to see the difference between fact and fiction, and to stand in solidarity with a nation fighting to preserve its heritage

Documentaries

Watching reliable documentaries is essential for understanding real events through accurate, well-researched storytelling—especially when it comes to complex topics like war, history, or national identity. In contrast, propaganda distorts the truth, often spreading misinformation to push political agendas or manipulate public perception. By choosing trusted sources, we equip ourselves with the knowledge to think critically, resist false narratives, and engage with the world in a more informed and meaningful way.

DOCUMENTARY SCREENING

Join for a special documentary screening of “A Faith Under Siege”, an urgent and moving film examining the systematic persecution of faith and religious freedom under Russia’s war against Ukraine. The screening is supported by representatives from various Quad Cities faith houses through the ICAT initiative which includes members from Lutheran, Catholic, Congregational, Jewish, Unitarian Universalist, Quaker, and Unity congregations. Others are welcome! This afternoon screening offers an opportunity for reflection, learning, and community dialogue on a dimension of the war that is often overlooked but deeply consequential. This is a FREE event but seats are limited.
