LECTURE SERIES
We are honored to share that Cactus and Tryzub, a local initiative dedicated to amplifying Ukrainian voices through literature and cultural dialogue, has been selected to join the esteemed Fall 2025 Lecture Series at the Scottsdale Public Library. This season's theme centers on prominent Ukrainian women in history whose contributions resonated far beyond their homeland, influencing European thought, politics, and the arts. Our participation will highlight these remarkable figures and explore how their legacies continue to inspire generations. It’s a meaningful opportunity to foster cross-cultural connection, celebrate heritage, and spark deeper appreciation for Ukraine’s historical impact through the lens of powerful female figures and engaging storytelling.

Ukrainian borscht is more than just a soup—it’s a culinary masterpiece and a symbol of national identity. Rich, hearty, and deeply nourishing, borscht is a vibrant beet-based dish layered with flavors from slow-cooked vegetables, tender meats, garlic, dill, and a finishing touch of sour cream. Every spoonful tells a story of Ukraine’s agricultural abundance, regional variation, and cultural pride. Whether enjoyed hot in the winter or chilled in the summer, borscht brings families and communities together around the table. Its preparation is often passed down through generations, each family adding their own twist, but always staying true to the essence of the dish. In recognition of its cultural significance, UNESCO added Ukrainian borscht to its List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding in 2022. This historic designation affirms what Ukrainians have always known: borscht is not merely food—it is heritage. In times of peace and conflict alike, the making and sharing of borscht remains an act of resilience, unity, and love. It is a reminder that culture lives in kitchens, and that something as simple as a bowl of soup can hold the soul of a nation. Ukrainian borscht is, quite simply, extraordinary.
