How to prepare

A few minutes of preparation turns a handshake into a commitment on the record.

  1. Confirm first. Check that the event is still on and the candidate is attending, and RSVP if required.

  2. Know their record. Read the candidate's public statements on Ukraine and our voter guide.

  3. Bring one question. For example: "Congress passed the Graham sanctions law with bipartisan support. Will you publicly call for it to be enforced?"

  4. Introduce yourself in one sentence. Give your name, say you live and vote in the district, and mention your connection to Ukraine.

  5. Stay brief and courteous, whatever their party. The goal is to get them on record, not to win an argument.

  6. Follow up. Write down their answer, ask a staffer for a contact, and email them afterward restating your question.

  7. Tell us what you heard, so we can track where candidates stand.
